Oh, Stila. Do you even realize how obsessed we all are with you?
When the Stila website briefly went down earlier there year, there was–no joke–panic in the blogosphere. Beauty bloggers dashed off emails and Tweeted fast and furiously, demanding intel on when the site would be back up, and breathing very public sighs of relief when the dust settled and StilaCosmetics.com returned to the world.
This is the kind of adoration Stila instills in us, the jaded beauty bloggers who have access to a billion and one products…yet cry when we are denied our Smudge Pots and Convertible Colors for even a millisecond. What makes the brand so darn addictive? (Well, now–I’m glad you asked!)
Stila is makeup for real women. It’s fun, easy-to-use, intuitive and just plain ol’ works! The eyeliners are idiot-proof (speaking as “Why-yes-that-is-eyeliner-all-over-my-cheek” Queen Idiot here!); many of the creams and shadows are heroes when you’re pressed for time, working double duty on eyes, lips and cheeks; and the colors are pretty, rich and wearable. No bizarre, conceptual, avant-garde makeup here: just beautiful items designed to make you look gorge!
I’ve listed some of my own personal favorites for you. If you’re only going to grab one or two to expand your makeup arsenal, you can’t miss these:
Stila Sun Bronzer:
With a slight hint of light shimmer, designed to warm your complexion and give you a healthy glow. This isn’t St. Tropez, “I fell asleep on the beach and now look like a lobster” color–it’s subtle and sun-kissed. Use a fluffy brush to apply on the areas where the sun would hit your face: forehead, eyelids, cheeks and nose. (I caution against applying bronzer on your chin…it’s easy to stray into 5 o’clock shadow territory!) Bonus: it has SPF 15!
Convertible Color:
We heart the Convertible Color because it’s a go-anywhere, do-anything type of makeup item, and comes in oodles of shades. Looking like you could give Eric, Bill and Queen Sophie-Anne a run for their money? Apply a little on the apples of cheeks to flush your complexion and bring it to life. It’s fantastic as a non-sticky lipgloss, and also works as cream eyeshadow, lasting all day long.
Kajal Eye Liner:
I can never figure out how to pronounce the damn thing (Kaaa-jal? Ka-jaaahl?) but it matters not. It’s one of my favorite eyeliners on the planet. You know how some eyeliners get all stiff and lose their lining power, forcing you to practically poke your eye out just to make the thinnest, most-pathetic trail of barely-there color ever? None of that nonsense here! Kajal Eye Liners are smooth and creamy, draping themselves across lids in an easy streak of generous, blendable color. I have one in every shade and hoard ‘em like they’re gold.
Lip Glaze:
What’s the big deal, right? I mean, it’s just a lip gloss, and as lip glosses go, it’s pretty hard to reinvent the wheel. Sure, this gloss isn’t going to change your life–it won’t whisper sweet nothings in your ear, pay your taxes, and take out the trash. But it will give you a non-sticky, not-too-sheer, not-too-heavy dose of perfect color that lasts for hours, smells divine, and makes your pucker look shiny and oh-so-kissable. I dare you to try one and not become addicted.
Stila Cosmetics goes on sale Tuesday September 1st!
