Nail It!: Why Your Polish Doesn’t Last

If there’s one rule when it comes to a successful manicure, it’s this: there are no short cuts! In this day and age, you’d think manicure basics would be common knowledge, yet I still hear complaints on a daily basis about how poorly a polish wears. In fact, a recent Twitter search for the term “nail polish” showed the majority of tweets are to complain about chipping.
Inquiries about the type of base and top coats used were met with responses saying there wasn’t time for what I consider the two most essential manicure steps! So to save you some frustration, I give you my top four reasons why manicures face an untimely death. (more…)
The Fairest Sale: Three Custom Color Specialists
I don’t think I make my love for Trae Bodge, Scott Catto and Chad Hayduk of Three Custom Color Specialists a secret. I’ve known them for a few years now and it has been amazing to watch their brand grow and evolve. In fact, I saw Scott and Chad this past weekend in NY as I had a party to celebrate 4 years of beauty blogging. They are amazing talented and I love how this boutique brand really has such amazing colors and collections.

Beauty…Hollywood Style: A day in Santa Monica
If you’ve been reading my last few stories, you know that since moving to Los Angeles, I’ve not only been learning to relax but I’ve also mastered Lauren Conrad beach waves! My next quest? A day of beauty in Santa Monica. Of course, I love my Hollywood neighborhood–but the one thing that it lacks is the beach, which has always been a peaceful place for me from my childhood summers in Montauk. It’s no real surprise that I’ve been finding recluse in Santa Monica now that I’m a West coaster.
I decided to try a Customized Fruit Enzyme Peel Treatment at ARCONA Los Angeles and I’m a total convert. I’m very particular about what I put on my face due to my previous bout with adult acne but this stuff is the real deal. My facialist applied an Enzyme complex mask that gently removed dead skin cells and cleansed my pores. My skin has the tendency to be dry and this mask was super moisturizing and smelled amazing, like a summer fruit salad. What I loved most about this particular facial is that after the mask, the facialist applies customized serums chosen specifically for your skin type. The serums are rich in anti-oxidants and promote circulation, helping to dissolve dry, dead skin and restore softness and smoothness. I left ARCONA feeling like I had a brand new face! My skin was hydrated, felt amazingly soft and looked more even in tone and texture. (more…)
Salon Insider: Back from C.O. Bigelow!
Neil and I were in Chicago and Columbus last week making personal appearances for the launch of the new partnership of Neil George and C.O. Bigelow. The stores are lovely, and everyone on the team at Bigelow is amazing. We are so excited about the new launch and look forward to great success!
Also exciting is the upcoming launch in November of Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo (which Neil wrote about here a couple of days ago) and Perfect Hold Hairspray to add to the assortment of our hair care collection. I know you will all love them. In the meantime, if you have any hair questions, post them below and we’ll answer in our next post. Until next week!
