As a fellow Asian gal, I’ve long coveted Lucy Liu’s hair. I came across this style of hers which I felt would be really appropriate for this season’s holiday parties. I like the contrast between sleek and wavy and a half-updo always creates a pretty, feminine look that is not too formal.
I consulted Rodney Cutler, celebrity hair stylist and owner of Cutler Salons (one of my personal favorite, staple salons) for a step by step on how to achieve Lucy Liu’s style. Luckily, it’s a lot easier than it looks!
1. Blow-dry hair with a flat brush using Cutler Protectant Treatment and Volumizing Spray
2. Create a low-side part, and then a second part that is parallel to the forehead
3. Curl hair with a large curling iron, leaving the front section out
4. Brush Redken Vinyl Glam into front section and tuck behind ear. Bobby pins are optional.
5. Finally, finish look with Redken workforce 09 on entire head
Whether in character as Joan Holloway or simply as herself, Mad Men star Christina Hendricks certainly knows a thing or two about being a temptress.
Last night at the Emmy Awards, all eyes were on Hendricks as she showed off her dazzling figure in a form fitting L’Wren Scott with a smoldering makeup look to match. We got the tips straight from Hendricks’ makeup artist this morning on how to get the look:
Makeup artist Georgie Eisdell says, “My inspiration was definitely the 20′s with a modern edge. I wanted it to keep Christina’s makeup really fresh, clean and elegant- with a dramatic eye, and clean and fresh skin. The key part to her makeup was in the eyes.”
Eyes: I didn’t want to see hard lines but wanted a bit of drama so I blended charcoal and silver shadow on her eye lids (MAC shadows Carbon and Figueroa) making it a little stronger on her lash line, followed by Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner above the lash line, then lashes lashes lashes (2 sets of MAC lashes), and loads of mascara. I love YSL mascara.
Skin: Her skin was prepped with La Mer moisturizing lotion and then La Mer foundation. It gives great coverage without having to use a lot of product and it stays put which is key for any red carpet. The last thing I did before applying powder to her face was to use La Mer Radiant Concealer under her eyes. This product highlights beautifully, doesn’t cake on, and stays on polished and smooth for the entire evening! It gave her eyes the perfect pop that I was looking for. (more…)
In The Ugly Truth, Katherine Heigl plays a character getting a little help from uber-hottie Gerard Butler figuring out what guys want. While most of his (hilarious and R-rated) advice isn’t beauty related, Butler does dispense a hair tip for exactly what style guys dig most: long, tousled, and very sexy.
Long, romantic waves is also my all time favorite hair look, so I asked celebrity hairstylist and owner of ION salon, Leonardo Manetti to throw me some tips on how to achieve the look.
For both curly and straight hair:
1. Shampoo and condition hair as usual, taking care not to use a heavy conditioner, which will weigh down the body and bounce that gives the look its youthful femininity. (more…)
