The Fairest: It’s Justin Bieber’s World…We Just Live in It
Hello, hello!
Can we confess something to you? We simply don’t get the cult of Justin Bieber. Where on earth did this kid come from? Few things have made us feel as out of touch with “today’s youth” (god, we feel like our grandmothers just writing that) as the 16-year-old, mop-topped Canadian phenom. He’s at the White House! He’s on the cover of People! He’s on SNL! He’s taking over our lives! We desperately want to understand why girls are obsessed with him, and we long for a day when he’s not the top trending topic on Twitter. (Alliteration, whee!) But most importantly, we want to know: how does he keep his hair so shiny…and does he have stock in Crest Whitestrips? Things to ponder, eh?
In completely unrelated news, it’s been a good week for royal watchers. First, the interwebs were buzzing this past week after Tina Brown declared on The 
Daily Beast that Prince William and Kate Middleton are rumored to be announcing their engagement this summer, with a wedding to follow in November. Regardless of whether the news is true or not (we think close, but not quite), it’s caused Wills and Kate speculation to go into overdrive.
And secondly, Grace Kelly—the legendary Oscar winner who moved to Monaco and became a real life Princess—is again everywhere, thanks to an exhibition at London’s Victoria and Albert museum celebrating her life through her wardrobe. Here we have Grace on the cover of Vanity Fair, there we have a juicy article in Tatler detailing her rise to the top of the social heap. It’s been nearly 50 years since Grace’s monumental wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco and nearly 30 since her fatal car crash, but she still fascinates. When it comes to poise, elegance and timelessness…there’s only one Grace.

The Fairest: American Idol State of Mind
Hello, beauties!
We’re in an American Idol state of mind, although we must confess that we find this year’s contestants a bit lackluster. Where’s our Kelly? No Carrie? Wherefore art thou Glambert?! After Alex Lambert was eliminated, we were a tiny bit crushed…but now we’re throwing our hopes behind Crystal Bowersox, who has that unique, 
awesome voice, plus is looking prettier and prettier every week. What say you?
Speaking of American Idol and prettiness, it seems the name on everybody’s lips is makeup artist Mezhgan Hussainy (pronounced MISH-gone—you’re welcome), who is, of course, engaged to marry annoying/sexy he-devil Simon Cowell. We had a pleasure of working with Mezhgan on a photo shoot for Total Beauty last year, and not only is she supremely talented, super nice and ridiculously beautiful (some people are just blessed!), she’s also the creator of her own makeup line called Me by Mezhgan. Learn more about the line here; we’re a fan of Luminous Me, a double-barreled primer and foundation duo.
Can we share something else really exciting? When we ran into Mezhgan at a party later in the year for Dr. Garth Fisher’s skincare line Cell-Ceuticals, she not only remembered us, but told us she’d bought our book Beauty Confidential and loved it! Hello, beauties!
What did you think of the Oscars? (Did we call The Hurt Locker, or what?) Hands-down, our favorite glamour gal of the night was Cameron Diaz, who proved that women (like fine wine—or Johnny Depp!) get better as they mature. At the Samsung viewing party we attended at the Four Seasons, there were audible gasps as she walked the carpet, and we heard her name-checked all night as looking particularly divine.
We snooped a bit to find out the secret behind Cameron’s gorgeous ‘do—perfectly old Hollywood, particularly set off against her strapless gold beaded Oscar de la Renta gown—and discovered that her stylist Lona Vigi achieved the Rita Hayworth-esque waves by using LiQWD Professional Volumizing Catalyst (also the secret behind Vera Farmiga’s softly tousled updo) and followed with Velecta Paramount Paris TGR 4000 blow-dryer.
