Happy Holidays from The Fairest!

That week is finally here: the fleeting time between Christmas and New Year when the schedule is completely thrown off, long-lost friends and family come back into town, and every day ticks closer to the big calendar change.

We’re busy taking stock of 2009 and making endless resolutions for 2010 (We will go to the gym!  We will clean our makeup brushes!), and as we look back on the year, we think it’s been a pretty good one.

From all of us at The Fairest, we wish you happy holidays and hope you’re having a beautiful, enjoyable time, wherever you might be!

The Fairest sale: Elave Dermo-Cosmetic Skincare

We’re pretty new to the organic/green/free-of-chemicals-that-will-eventually-wreck-you skincare party, as it’s always been a challenge to find products that are all kumbaya while still providing effective benefits.  Elave Dermo-Cosmetic Skincare goes on sale Monday at The Fairest, and we’re super impressed by the laundry list of what it doesn‘t have:  no parabens, no alcohol, no sulfates, no formaldehyde, no phthalates, no dyes, no color, no fragrance…

Elave, an Irish brand around since 1934, devotes itself to the basics: treating pigmentation, battling environmentally-caused damage, improving hydration, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Not for nothing is it English rose Jemma Kidd’s favorite line (and she knows beauty products), who swears by the Age Delay Daily Cleanser, featuring glycolic acid, SPF 45 Daily Skin Defense, and Age Delay Night Treatment.

Natural and effective?  Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

Rachel McAdams at Sherlock Holmes press conference

Rachel McAdams glowed at a press conference for Sherlock Holmes in Los Angeles this week — and also displayed some rather dark roots.  What do you think?  Do you like it when celebrities display a bit of beauty laziness (they’re just like us!) or is it visually offputting?

Celebs rocking black roots on blonde hair: love it or loathe it?(answers)

American Music Awards’ Beauty Looks

Like the MTV VMA’s, the American Music Awards are feister and flashier than their more staid cousin, the Grammy Awards. That’s why we were surprised by the mostly safe hair and makeup (not to mention clothing) choices at last night’s show. With a few notable exceptions (is Rihanna auditioning for a Blade Runner sequel? And how many sticks of eyeliner and cans of hairspray had to die for Adam Lambert?), we were underwhelmed. Hey, you’ve seen one red carpet (or five hundred), you’ve seen ‘em all! Regardless, here are the looks–some pretty, some pretty crazy–that turned our heads:

Kristen Bell

Rihanna

Adam Lambert
