Who’s the Fairest? reader: Chiara Amendola

Chiara AmendolaWhat’s your full name? Chiara Amendola

How old are you?
I turn 21 on September 21st!

Where do you live?
I am a senior at the University of Maine, but I’m originally from New Haven, Connecticut.

What’s your biggest beauty concern?
Living in New England, one becomes used to drastic weather changes in a short amount of time. I go to school in Maine, where the temperature can actually drop to -27 with windchill! Needless to say, this bitter cold wind rushing across my face creates chafing and severe dryness. For someone who usually has normal to combination skin, constant experimentation is necessary to determine what exactly works on my face during the different seasons.  The worst is when my skin is Sahara-dry and breaking out!

Who’s your favorite beauty icon/beauty idol?
Bobbi Brown‘s whole philosophy of make up really exemplifies how I personally feel about cosmetics. She makes women look just like themselves, but better. She doesn’t fake appearances–she enhances them. Why try to disguise who you are?

Who’s the Fairest? reader: Rae Chen

Rae ChenWhat’s your full name?
Rae Chen.  I blog at theNotice.

How old are you?
A lady never tells her true age! Under twenty.

Where do you live?
Alberta, Canada. (Hey, if I hate the prairies, am I still a prairie girl? Hmm…)

What’s your biggest beauty concern?
This varies a lot for me, but most of the time it’s my skin: it’s always been quite clear, and I’d really like to keep it that way! In the winter, though, I’m all about hydration. Everything from my hair to my skin dries out, and it’s turned me into a complete product and lip balm addict. I’m always on the hunt for something better!

Rae Chen smokeyWho’s your favorite beauty icon/beauty idol?
Do makeup artists count as beauty icons? Because if they do, I’m totally picking François Nars. I love his take on beauty, from the gorgeous-but-not-stereotypically-pretty models he chooses to the fact that the looks he creates are always experimental, always playing with shapes, and always pushing the boarders. I pretty much went into a week-long happiness coma when he returned to the runway for Marc Jacobs‘ fall collection!

How much time do you normally spend on your hair and makeup?
Most mornings, probably twenty minutes, tops. For going out, though, I give myself at least forty minutes!

Rae Chen redWhat’s the one beauty product you could never live without?
Blush. My favorites vary practically on a daily basis, but the ones I always return to are MAC Harmony (for contouring) and Lancome Pink Fresque.

Where’s your favorite place to go shopping for beauty products?
Sephora. The product range is phenomenal, and it’s one of the few places I can shop the way I prefer to — undisturbed!
